Lacy Cozy Cowl - Free Crochet Pattern

SCROLL DOWN FOR THE FREE PDF PATTERN FOR THE CROCHET LACY COZY COWL.

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I love Caron Cakes. I have a number of pattern using all variations of the Caron Cakes (Big Cakes, Tea Cakes, Sprinkle Cakes).

FIND ALL MY PATTERNS USING CARON CAKES HERE.

I love that they come in beautiful color combinations that I would otherwise put together on my own. This cake does have 'abrupt' color changes, but using the right pattern you don't notice it much at all!

For this crochet cowl, you cannot tell where the colors change - you just get a very pretty ombre effect of gorgeous neutrals. I think this color way "white truffle" is one of my favorites! I have another pattern coming out very soon using the same color (stay tuned - you can sign up for my email list here if you don't want to miss out when I have new patterns!)

The lacy cozy cowl is crocheted using the rope stitch which gives a breathable fabric and pretty lacy texture. I think it's the perfect transition piece into fall or a good piece to have all winter if you live in the warmer climates.

The rope stitch is a very easy stitch and can be worked up quite quickly. After the first row, you will be working into the chain spaces vs. individual stitches, which makes it a very easy and mindless stitch.

MORE FREE CROCHET PATTERNS THAT YOU WILL LOVE

If you would rather use a solid color for this cowl, I would suggest using a worsted weight yarn that gives plenty of drape. Suggestions for yarn substitutes I would give are the following: Lion Brand Heartland, Caron Simply Soft, Lion Brand Jeans Yarn, and Red Heart Soft. Those yarns will give you a pretty drape and keep your cowl flexible.

Velvet Circle Pillow - Free Crochet Home Decor Pattern

GET THE FREE PDF DOWNLOAD FOR THE CROCHET VELVET CIRCLE PILLOW BELOW.

Let me start by saying - velvet yarn is thee yarn you will want to snuggle up in and never part with.

It's funny because the first time I came into contact with it, I didn't give it a second look over. I think it was Yarn Bee from Hobby Lobby where I saw it first. I just didn't have any ideas of what to do with it and walked on by.

Fast forward to this past weekend when I found the Bernat Velvet at Michael's and I'm obsessed. They come in big 315 yard skeins in various beautiful colors. They immediately reminded me of the velvet dresses I wore as a kid in the 90s. Burgundy, deep purple, navy, and teal green - plus they have pretty neutrals!

I originally wanted the burgundy but my store was out of them (thank goodness for online shopping!), so being the impatient person I am I picked up the Sandy Cream which is such a pretty neutral.

I worked up a swatch and knew I had to make a pillow - the softest, comfiest, and squishiest pillow!

I loved working with this yarn so much, I finished this project in one day (I even sewed a pillow form for it because I didn't want to wait to get one in stores!). I immediately started working up another pattern after finishing this one too! I just love how it works up and how soft it is.

This velvet yarn has got me sold. I have so many more projects I want to make with it! I just want to live in this yarn, it's that good.

Stay tuned for more projects using this velvety yarn goodness! You can sign up for my email list so you don't miss out. :) SIGN UP FOR MY EMAIL LIST HERE.

I love Halloween and decorating for Halloween! I just love fall in general and everything that comes with it, to be honest. If you haven't seen I had my own little Halloween crochet along that I started a few months ago where we made a Halloween Blanket. It's pretty awesome - you can check it out here.

For my contribution to this 2018 Halloween crochet along, I made a fun amigurumi ragdoll style frankenstein!

This frankenstein is so easy to make and pretty quick too! It's perfect to give to the littles in your lives or to prop on your desk or couch!

Last year, I made a spooky little ghost in the same rag doll style and he would be a great companion to this frankenstein! You can find that free pattern here.

Crochet Striped Raglan Sweater - Free Pattern

Purchase the ad-free PDF pattern for the Crochet Striped Raglan Sweater for you convenience here!
OR Find the Striped Raglan Sweater crochet pattern for free below!

This Raglan Sweater is definitely a staple for your closet now that fall is approaching! It's a basic sweater that fits your form and has a fun stripe detail (or you can leave it out if you just want a pretty sweater all in one color!)

I worked so hard on this design for you guys and I'm so happy that I'm finally releasing it out in the world! The actual crocheting part was a breeze - I couldn't believe how easy a raglan style sweater crochets up! And fairly quickly too.

With no sewing or seaming, this sweater is crocheted completely in ONE PIECE! No sewing the arm sleeves together or on the body. No seaming up the body pieces. The only time you will need your yarn needle is to weave in a few ends. You will love the construction of it because of this!

Although the Raglan Sweater was so easy to crochet (I finished it in about 2-3 sittings) - boy was it a handful to tackle the math to write down the pattern! I wanted to make it as easy and clear as possible, so I did lots of math for the stitch counts. I apologize in advance because this pattern comes in limited sizes (XS - XL). Like I said, the math was a beast and more than I could take on!

A thing to note about size is, I made it to be form fitting. I am actually wearing a size smaller than what the pattern indicates I should have made. With my original size guide, a lot of my pattern testers found it to be too snug so I moved up all the sizes and added one for the XLarge. I would typically wear a large but since I moved the sizes, I am actually wearing a medium. You can see that it is very snug, especially around the bust so if you follow the sizes guideline in the pattern, don't worry it should not be THAT snug on you.

I used Lion Brand's Heartland yarn which is soft and stretchy and helps make the sweater comfortable. I highly recommend using this yarn when making this sweater! One of my testers also used Caron Simply Soft which is similar and could be used as a yarn substitute as well.

You may also notice when doing the striping, that in my photos I have less stripes. I wrote the pattern catered to an average height person. Being 4'10", I adjusted my pattern to be a bit shorter. If you are a shorty like me, you can simply leave off a row of stripes!

And of course, if you are taller, feel free to add more stripes or just add more length at the bottom.

The nice thing about raglan style sweaters is that you can try them on as you go. You can easily adjust the length of both the body and sleeves by simply adding on rows after you have tried the sweater on for size.

(Thank you so much! Your support helps my blog going!)

Color Block Crochet Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern

Find the free pattern download for the Color Block Crochet Blanket below!

Perfect for baby, toddler, child, and adult! This pattern is easy, beginner friendly, provides loads of texture and warmth, plus can be made in any size desired!

I made this blanket roughly 4 years ago - talk about throw back for me! My son was 3 years old and in preschool where they took afternoon naps (those lucky ducks!) so I made him this blanket to snuggle under during those much needed naps.

He's still able to snuggle under this blanket with his books since I made it extra long for him! I don't know about you, but I love making sure every inch is covered. :)

When I was going through all of my crochet blankets now that the weather is starting to turn (and then going back to hot and humid.. when will the cool weather stick?) and decided that this would be a good one to put up on the blog!

It's textured, warm, easy to make, fairly quick, and perfect to make for any size! Those are all good qualities for a blanket if you ask me.

The stitch used is called the waffle stitch, which provides a texture as well as thickness to make this the perfect blanket to snuggle under during the fall and winter seasons. And the good news is, it's easy! If you know how to double crochet, you know how to make this blanket.

Like I said earlier in this post, it's very easy to make this in any size you'd like. To make it wider, you will just need to add on to the beginning chain in multiples of two. To make it longer, simply keep adding rows until you think it's long enough!

MORE FUN FREE BLANKET CROCHET PATTERNS

I love making this waffle stitch and I think you will enjoy it too! Easy enough for a beginner and meditative mindless work for the more experienced crocheter! My favorite thing about it is all the mini squares it makes with such simple stitches - so pretty!

Halloween Crochet Blanket Joining and Border Tutorial

This last week of the CAL for the Halloween Blanket, we will be crocheting our squares together and adding the border! Pat yourself on making it this far, we are almost finished!

Joining Granny Squares

If you have never joined granny square before - don't worry! I have a video tutorial for you on how I join my granny squares. I actually crochet them together vs. using a needle and yarn to sew them together. I find it easier, but that is just my preference!

This is the same join I used for the Christmas Afghan.  For this Halloween blanket, I joined with the same gray color as the squares. See the photo below to see the order I put them in as a reference.

You can join your squares however you'd like, there are many many ways to join granny squares! If this join is not for you, do a quick search on YouTube and you will find other ways that you may like better. :)

Border

The border is really easy to do. I made a simple border just to tie everything together.
Start by attaching gray yarn to a corner of your blanket after you have joined all the squares. Chain up 1 and make 5 half double crochets into the corner. Continue to half double crochet all the way around the blanket (1 half double crochet per stitch around). When you get to the corners make 5 half double crochets - this helps keep the blanket square. After you get all the way around, join to the first half double crochet.

Switch to green and repeat. Then switch to purple and repeat. And that's it!

Get creative with your borders! You can use as many colors as you'd like or switch it up with a different stitch!

I can't wait to see all of your finished blankets! Please share with me on our Facebook group and/or Instagram.
