Talulah Top - Free Crochet Lacey, Ruffle Tunic Pattern

Find the free crochet pattern for this lacy, ruffled top below! Made with cotton and perfect for spring and summer.

I'm so happy to share with you my first ever top I've designed! This pattern is actually fairly easy with just a few seams! It's mostly just rows with a handful of increases/decreases.

We seem to be having a very long winter and I have worked this up in March on one of our 'snow days'. I was willing the warm spring days to come soon!

I had an idea in mind that I wanted something with ruffles that would flatter my body, and it came out just like I imagined! (That doesn't happen too often on the first try.)

Being short and having more of a belly than I'd like, it's really hard for me to find clothing that flatters my body. Being able to make my own garments is truly incredible! I can customize it exactly how I like and be super proud of it!

From top to bottom, I love everything about this top. It's fitted at the top and flows out nicely with a lacy stitch that makes it so pretty and feminine.

I also love the neckline on both sides of the top.  It's the same on both sides, which makes it easier to make as well!

Using I Love This Cotton!, it's nice and airy and has great stitch definition. This brand of yarn from Hobby Lobby also has a great variety of colors to choose from! I used a warm blush and paired it with white for a pretty, feminine feel.

I hope you enjoy making this top! Please share with me on Social Media (Facebook or Instagram), I would love to see the colors you choose!

If you'd like the ad-free, printable version of this pattern - you can purchase the inexpensive PDF file on Ravelry. (Thank you! Every purchase helps keep my blog running!)

Want to make it for later?

Save it to your Ravelry.

Pattern

Materials:
I Love This Cotton! (~180 yards per skein)
I used two colors: warm blush(color A) and white(color B)
S/M/L: 2 skeins color A, 3 skeins color B
XL: 3 skeins color A, 3 skeins color B
2X/3X: 3 skeins Color A, 4 skeins color B
H/5.00mm hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors

Notes:

The top portion will be made by making two panels. We will start by working from the bottom up for the panels.

Chain in the beginning of each row/round will not count as a stitch unless stated.

I will refer to colors as Color A and Color B. Color A is the top portion (I used pink) and Color B is the bottom portion of the top (I used white).

Abbrevations (US terms)

Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, st = stich(es), sk = skip, sl st = slip stitch, dec = decrease

Gauge: 4” x 4” in half double crochet ~ 14 stitches x 12 rows

Sizes

Small: 32-34" bust
Medium: 36-38" bust
Large: 40-42" bust
XL: 44-46" bust
2X: 48-50” bust
3X: 52-54” bust

Pattern

Starting with Color A

Row 1: Ch 38 (48, 58, 68,78, 88), hdc across, turn (36, 46, 56, 66, 76, 86)
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc across, turn (36, 46, 56, 66, 76, 86)
Row 3: Ch 2, 2hdc, hdc until last st, 2hdc in last st, turn (38, 48, 58, 68,78, 88)
Row 4: Repeat Row 3 (40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90)
Row 5: Repeat Row 3 (42, 52, 62, 72, 82, 92)
Row 6: Repeat Row 3 (44, 54, 64, 74, 84, 94)
Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of 15 (18, 21, 24, 27, 30) rows

Do not fasten off, we will start working on the neckline.

Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in next 16 (21, 25, 31, 36, 41) st, dec, turn
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc across, turn
Row 3: Ch 2, hdc across until last 2 st, dec over last 2 st, turn
Repeat Row 2&3 3 times
Repeat Row 2 8 times
Fasten off

Flip over your piece, attach yarn to other side of the main portion of the top and repeat the neckline pattern.

Make two panels.

Assemble two panels together by putting them together and sewing up the top portions and the sides. For sizes Small & Medium sizes, leave about 7” opening, for sizes Large & XLarge leave about 8.5” opening, and for 2X & 3X leave about 10" opening.

Attach Color B yarn to bottom of the top portion you just sewed together. We will now be working in rounds.

Repeat Round 2 for 23(23, 27, 27, 31, 31) rounds

*Make the top as long/short as you'd like by adding/removing rows

Caron Cotton Cakes Basket - Free Crochet Pattern

Caron Cotton Cakes are one of my favorite yarns to work with, and this crochet basket is super easy to make! Find the free pattern below!

Caron Cotton Cakes are anticipated to come back to Michael's Stores this April (2018). I haven't seen any sightings just yet, but we are nearing the end of April so I'm sure they will be on the shelves any day now!

I used the Caron Cotton Cakes in Beach Glass from last summer when they were newly released. I love the blue and gray combination and I love how it worked up double stranded!

As you can see, I made this basket for the newest addition to our family! A cockapoo named Milo, who is now 9 weeks old. I have already started to crochet all the things for this little pup! This basket is for all of his toys and extra blankets.

I had a limited number of skeins to work with for the Caron Cotton Cakes, so I had to add a different cotton yarn to the top. It seemed to work out in my favor, because I love the block of white on the top - perfect to add his name!

Of course, you can leave it blank or stitch on another word such as "yarn", "toys", your child's name, etc. I didn't do anything fancy for the stitching, just a running stitch. Surface crochet was proven too difficult for me, but that could totally work too!

I used a crab stitch for the very top of the basket, and I think it makes such a nice finishing touch! Along with the rope handles, I think this basket looks pretty legit! The rope handles are optional, but I like to move my baskets often so they will be very useful for me.

After crocheting the basket, it did not stay up on its own.  It kind of just fell over on itself although I doubled up the yarn throughout. I did have to stiffen the fabric, which I dreaded doing.. but it was easier than I thought it would be and it turned out great!

There are many different ways of doing this, but I used water and white glue. Cheap and easy. I'll have tutorial coming up on just how I stiffened this basket to stand up! Although it holds the shape, it is still flexible as you can see when Milo digs into his toys. :)

Are you making this for later?

Pattern

Materials
4 skeins Caron Cakes (Beach Glass)
1 skein I Love this Cotton! (white)
Yarn to sew on name/word (optional)
J/6.00mm hook
1 yard of rope for handles (I got mine at Joann Fabric's)
Tapestry needle
Scissors

Notes

The basket will be made by holding two strands of yarn together throughout.

*When making the base of the basket, I kept increasing each round until it got wavy. When the circle become ruffled, I added a round of even stitches (no increasing), then continued to increase. The pattern is a bit 'uneven', if you will, but if you come to a point where your circle is completely ruffled, you may need to add more rows with no increases.

Crab stitch: Single crochet into the previous stitch, going the opposite direction you normally would crochet.

Abbreviations (US terms)
Ch = chain, hdc = half double crochet, st = stitch(es), sk = skip

Gauge: 13 st x 10 rows in hdc

Dimensions: 9.5 inches in height, 13 inches in diameter

Start by holding two strands of Caron Cotton Cakes together

Round 1: Magic ring, Ch 2, 12 hdc in ring, join to first hdc
Round 2: Ch 2, 2hdc in each st around, join to first hdc
Round 3: Ch 2, *2hdc, hdc, repeat from * around, join to first hdc
Round 4: Ch 2, *2hdc, hdc in next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first hdc
Round 5: Ch 2, *2hdc, hdc in next 3 st, repeat from * around, join to first hdc
Round 6: Ch 2, *2hdc, hdc in next 4 st, repeat from * around, join to first hdc
Round 7: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join to first hdc
Round 8: Ch 2, *2hdc, hdc in next 5 st, repeat from * around, join to first hdc
Round 9: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join to first hdc
Round 10: Ch 2, *2hdc, hdc in next 6 st, repeat from * around, join to first hdc
Round 11: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join to first hdc
Round 12: Ch 2, *2hdc, hdc in next 7 st, repeat from * around, join to first hdc
Round 13: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join to first hdc
Round 14: Ch 2, *2hdc, hdc in next 8 st, repeat from * around, join to first hdc
Round 15: Ch 2, hdc in back loops only in each st around, join to first hdc
Round 16-29: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join to first hdc

Change to white yarn, holding two strands together

Round 30-35: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join to first hdc
Round 36: Ch 2, *hdc into next 55 st, ch 3, sk 3, hdc into next 14 st, ch 3, sk 3, repeat from *, join to first hdc
Round 37: Ch 2, hdc into each stitch around, making 3 hdc into previous ch 3 spaces, join to first hdc
Round 38:Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join to first hdc
Round 39: Ch 1, crab stitch all the way around, join to first st
Fasten off

Attach rope handles by taking a piece of rope and inserting them in the holes on the top of the basket. Knot the rope on the inside of the basket.

Stiffen basket. Sew on word/name (optional).

There are several methods to stiffening fabric. I will have a tutorial on exactly how I stiffened this basket!

We hope you had a pawesome time making your basket!

Crochet Llama Applique and Granny Square - Free Crochet pattern

OR SCROLL DOWN FOR THE FREE LLAMA CROCHET PATTERN.

What's better than a cute crochet llama?! A cute crochet llama granny blanket!

This square is just one in my newest themed granny square blanket. Last week I made a cactus square that you can find the free pattern to here.

I'm going for a llama and cactus theme for this granny square blanket, and I'm in love with how it's turning out!  I chose to do fun and bright colors for the accompanying squares.

I think this blanket is going to be super cute, especially for a baby blanket. The pink squares can easily be switched for a pretty blue for a little boy!

I plan on making at least one more applique to finish this blanket up. Not many appliques for this afghan, but I really want to make the llamas the star of this blanket!

I will be making my llamas with all different colored rugs. It's going to be a great way to use up a bit of scrap yarn!

I think this is going to be a really fun blanket. I'm already having so much fun designing it and seeing it come together!

You can see a little of how it's going to look in the photo at the bottom of this post!
