Crochet Easter Basket Stuffed Toys - Free Crochet Patterns

Do you need ideas on what to put in your child's Easter basket this year? Look no further, you can get creative and crochet these little bunny, chick, and unicorn stuffies for a non-candy treat in your child's Easter basket!

Aren't these just the cutest?! I made a few chicks (without the flower crown) last year for my son's Easter basket, and about a month ago I made the bunny pattern (which is basically the chick but with bunny ears!)

The unicorn I made just a few days ago to make a cute little set to send along to my niece for Easter! It's the same base as the chick and bunny, I just had to add the horn and ears to make it an adorable unicorn. :)

All of these unique Easter basket ideas have the option to put in a shaker! It's pretty simple: add some rice or beans to a small plastic Easter egg and put it inside with the stuffing!

It's a great little noise maker for toddlers or you can opt to leave it out for just a cute little stuffie!

In addition, you can leave out the flower crowns and they will be suitable for little boy's baskets!

Once I made the unicorn, I looked around on Pinterest and saw that a fellow blogger made a pretty darn similar one! I didn't write up another pattern for it because why fix something when it's not broke?

Here is the link to find her unicorn pattern.

*If you'd like to make the style of flower crowns to match the other two, you can find the flower crown pattern here in the bunny post.

I would like to caution when making these, depending on the yarn you use they may come out bigger than expected. I used Lion Brand Vanna's Choice for all of them and they came out to about 4-5".

Using something like Red Heart or I Love This Yarn! may result in a much bigger critter. If you prefer that, great! If you would rather have something on the smaller side, I suggest using a smaller hook size if you go with a worsted weight yarn that is not Vanna's Choice.

I hope these little toys will make your littles smile and that they love finding these little toys in their Easter baskets!

Spring Blog Hop: Festive Cactus Pillow Cover - Free Crochet Pattern

I am really excited to be participating in a Spring Blog Hop with fellow talented crochet designers and bloggers! You will be hopping from one blog to the next to find amazing crochet patterns for spring!

Don't wait - some patterns are only free for a limited time! You will find the next blog to hop to at the end of this post.

Today, I have a really fun and festive Cactus Pillow Cover crochet pattern to share with you on my blog!

I may or may not be into cacti right now. I just posted a granny square cactus pattern last week! I've also been seeing cacti print everything (I even got a whole cacti print set of sheets!) and I love it!

So I needed something fun to bring to my couch now that it is spring, and I love all the brightness and color this pillow brings!

I made the cactus applique separately and then sewed it onto one of the two panels I made for the pillow cover. It was easy to sew on since I was not worried about what the back looked like since it would be on the inside.

I used the grit stitch to give some extra texture on the pillow cover and I also made the back really fun!

I used the white, green, and pink colors that I used for the cactus and made stripes on the back. I used this Stripe Generator, which is such a useful tool to have. Bookmark it, you may want to use it for other projects!

I chose to use three colors and I set the stripe widths allowed to 1, 2, 3, and 4. Of course, you can play around with this and make it however you'd like! I like the random striped look.

Just to note, I did make sure there wasn't a lot of white stripes on the back, because I wanted to use only one skein of white that I had on hand. I ended up having just the right amount!

To finish off, I made tassels for each corner of the pillow. I think it adds such a fun touch and I'm thrilled with the outcome!

I made 2.75" tassels using Boye's tassel maker, but I know there are tutorials out there to make tassels without needing to buy a tassel maker.

Pattern

Materials
Worsted weight yarn in white, pink, green, and light brown
(I used Loops&Threads Impeccable in Arbor Rose, Taupe, and White and Red Heart Super Saver in Spring Green)
16" pillow form
J/6.00mm hook
White thread
Tapestry needle and scissors

Notes

The pillow cover will be made with two panels and the cactus applique made of three different parts (cactus, cactus pot, and flower).

I used the Boye Tassel maker to make 2.75" tassels. You may use another method without the tool (YouTube is a good place to learn).

Gauge: 4" x 4" ~ 12 st x 10 rows in grit stitch (alternating sc and dc)
*Gauge is important so your pillow cover will fit a 16" pillow form. If you're unfamiliar with gauge, you can learn about it here!*

Abbreviations (US terms)
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, st = stitch(es), sl st = slip stitch(es)

Pillow panel

Using white yarn and J hook

Row 1: Ch 52, dc in 3rd ch from hook, sc in next st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across
Row 2-45: Ch 1, *dc, sc, repeat from * across
Fasten off

Make another panel the same way except use this stripe chart and change colors (pink, white, and green). (You can click on it to make it larger.) You may make your own stripe pattern by using this Stripe Generator.

Cactus

Using green yarn and J/6.00mm hook

Row 1: Ch 23, sc in back loops across, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in back loops across until last st, 2sc in back loop in last st, turn
Row 3: Ch 1, 2sc in back loop, sc in back loop across, turn
Row 4-9: Repeat Row 2-3
Row 10-21: Ch 1, sc in back loops across, turn
Row 22: Ch 1, sc in back loops across until last 2 st, sc decrease in back loops, turn
Row 23: Ch 1, sc decrease in back loops, sc in back loops across, turn
Row 24-29: Repeat Row 22-23
Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing.

Take your white thread and needle and sew on little V's to make the spikes on the cactus.

Cactus Pot

Using light brown yarn and J/6.00mm hook

Row 1: Ch 33, sc in 2nd chain from hook and across, turn
Row 2-3: Ch 1, sc across, turn
Row 4: Ch 1, sl st into next 4 st, ch 1, sc in same st as last sl st, sc into next 25 st, turn
Row 5: Ch 1, sc decrease, sc until last two st, sc decrease, turn
Row 6: Ch 1, sc across, turn
Row 7-14: Repeat Row 5-6
Single crochet around the perimeter of the pot, making sure to make 3 sc in each corner.
Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing.

Flower

Using pink yarn and J/6.00mm hook

Round 1: Magic ring, 12 sc into ring, join to first sc
Round 2: Ch 1, (sc, dc, ch 2, dc, sc) all in same space, *skip 1 st, (sl st, ch 1, sc, dc, ch 2, dc, sc) all in next st, repeat from * around, sl st into space under beginning ch 1
Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing.

Assembly

First, we will sew on the cactus to the white pillow cover panel.

Use a tapestry needle and tail ends of yarn to sew on the cactus first, then sew on the pot to overlap the cactus just a bit.

Sew on your flower last. I used a running stitch because nobody is going to see the back of the panel, it will be on the inside.

Hold the two panels together and use pink yarn and your J/6.00mm hook to crochet the two pieces together. Using stitch markers may help to keep everything even and in place while you crochet around.

Single crochet around the edges and be sure to make 3 single crochets into each corner.

Make 4 tassels (mine were 2.75" with the Boye tassel maker). Attach to each corner of the pillow.

Weave in any pesky ends and brighten up your room with this festive and fun pillow!

Crochet Cactus Granny Square - Free Pattern

I don't want to spill the beans just yet of what the theme of this granny square afghan will be, but it obviously involves cacti!

It's no secret that I love designing crochet appliques! If you're new here, check out my Ocean Afghan and my Woodland Afghan.  Oh, and I can't forget about the Christmas Afghan we did as a crochet along last year!

So I've been around the block a time or two when it comes to granny squares and appliques. Funny because every single one of my granny squares are different patterns!

I think I've perfected the granny square this time though. This solid granny square has a circle center (which I love in a granny square!) and no seams! Perfectly perfect.

One of my favorite things about making granny squares is that you can make them during the warmer seasons without being bogged down with a large blanket in your lap!

Another favorite thing I love about making granny squares is that it's almost instant gratification! Every square is like it's own little project and it just feels so good to get just one more square finished!

There are a lot of other reasons why I love granny squares too.. like how you can work on them basically anywhere, there are endless possibilities (traditional grannies, solid grannies, small grannies, large grannies, stripes, one color, many colors!), and they're so simple and there are so many creative ways to put them together.

Okay, now that you know my undying love for granny squares.. I'll share with you the perfected granny square pattern I came up with along with the cactus applique. (Remember, there will be more appliques coming for this project! Sign up for my email list so you don't miss out when I post new patterns!)

Coastal Indoor Rug - Free Crochet Pattern made with Caron Cotton Cakes

The Coastal Indoor Rug is a free crochet pattern that you can easily work up to add some beach vibes to your kitchen or bathroom! Find the pattern below - PDF version is available for free!

First off, can we just appreciate the colors in this beauty? I used Caron cotton cakes in Beach Glass - I even hunted some down after they were discontinued just to ensure I would have enough for a project.

Now they were discontinued last summer, but I got good news. They are coming back this year (2018)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, is that too much excitement?

I really am ecstatic though. I didn't get to them in time last year and only had the small clearance section to pick through. Now my question is, will they come back in the same colorways? Or have they come up with different colorways?

Okay, now that we all know they are coming back, you will want to check out this free pattern I have for you.

I needed a kitchen rug, just big enough for me to have under the sink. I wanted something simple but detailed (that seems to be my jam). I knew the color changes would create great striping and I also added some filets for great texture!

Oh, and the fringe! I had to add some pretty detailed fringe. I think it's one of my favorite aspects of the rug, to be honest.

I have a quick tutorial on how I did the fringe (that you can really add to anything). And I also have added notes below to help you make the rug as large or small as you'd like.

Pattern

Materials

3 skeins Caron Cotton cakes
H/5.00mm hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Stitch Markers (optional)

Pattern notes

Beginning chains count as a stitch. Using stitch markers to mark off the beginning of your rows may help keeping your rows even.

To make the rug larger in width, add to your beginning chain in multiples of 2. Add to the length by repeating the pattern.

Dimensions: 19” x 26.5” without fringe after blocked

Abbreviations (US terms):
Ch = chain, hdc = half double crochet, sk = skip, st = stitch(es), tr = treble crochet

Row 1: Ch 70, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each st across (69)
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as a st),  hdc across, turn
Row 3-14: repeat row 2
Row 15: Ch 5 (counts as stitch), sk 1 st, tr in next st, *ch 1, sk 1, tr in next st, repeat from * , turn
Row 16: Ch 2, *hdc in ch space from previous row, hdc in next st, repeat from * , turn
Rows 17-29: Repeat Row 2
Repeat Rows 15-29   3 times

Fasten off. Weave in ends and block project if necessary.

Add fringe. (See video for visual tutorial.) Cut 15 inch yarn pieces. Take 4 strands at a time, fold in half and loop through stitches every 3-4 spaces.
To add the extra knot, take first tassle and half of second tassle and knot together in the middle. Knot half of the second tassle and half of the third tassle together in the middle. Continue making knots down the row. At the end, take half of the second to last tassle and last tassle and knot together. Trim fringe as necessary.
