 The mattress stitch is a popular method of sewing two pieces of crochet (or knit) together, especially for garments.

Seaming two pieces of crochet together can be scary especially when you've never done it before! I'm here to tell you, no matter what method of sewing you use - don't be scared! Once you get the hang of it, it becomes very easy.

Although there are many methods of seaming, the mattress stitch is a popular way to seam up garments and for good reason!

After seaming your pieces together, you will find that the join is very flat and the seam is pretty invisible. This method is good to use particularly on the shoulders of garments as you don't want any noticeable seaming especially on an area that can be very noticeable.

In the video below, I will show you the basics of the mattress stitch. At 2:40 minutes in, I will show you how I sew two sides together where you are seaming the sides of the rows together.

As you can see, the mattress stitch is very easy! Take your time and be sure to line up all your edges appropriately to get the best results.
