I'm so happy to be contributing to the 2018 Halloween Crochet Along that Underground Crafter and Oombawka Design is hosting!

I love Halloween and decorating for Halloween! I just love fall in general and everything that comes with it, to be honest. If you haven't seen I had my own little Halloween crochet along that I started a few months ago where we made a Halloween Blanket. It's pretty awesome - you can check it out here.

For my contribution to this 2018 Halloween crochet along, I made a fun amigurumi ragdoll style frankenstein! 

This frankenstein is so easy to make and pretty quick too! It's perfect to give to the littles in your lives or to prop on your desk or couch!

Last year, I made a spooky little ghost in the same rag doll style and he would be a great companion to this frankenstein! You can find that free pattern here.

Embellish mouth and scar above eye with black yarn and tapestry needle. Next we will sew limbs on by putting them between the two body panels. Use the tail ends of the limbs to sew through all pieces of fabric (front panel, limb, and back panel). Angle the arms down and outward a bit. Place the legs in the center of the body with a small gap between. *See photo as guideline.*

Once the limbs are secured between the front and back panels, we will start to crochet around the body to enclose it. Start by attaching green yarn to the left side of the body where the green yarn meets the black yarn. *See photo.* Ch 1, sc crochet evenly through both panels around the body. Make 3 sc in each corner. Join to first sc and fasten off. *Before crocheting up the last side, stuff with poly-fil. Do not overstuff. *When you get to the limbs, sc on the front panel layer only. *Switch yarn color as needed around the body.

Crochet Easter Basket Stuffed Toys - Free Crochet Patterns

Do you need ideas on what to put in your child's Easter basket this year? Look no further, you can get creative and crochet these little bunny, chick, and unicorn stuffies for a non-candy treat in your child's Easter basket!

Aren't these just the cutest?! I made a few chicks (without the flower crown) last year for my son's Easter basket, and about a month ago I made the bunny pattern (which is basically the chick but with bunny ears!)

The unicorn I made just a few days ago to make a cute little set to send along to my niece for Easter! It's the same base as the chick and bunny, I just had to add the horn and ears to make it an adorable unicorn. :)

All of these unique Easter basket ideas have the option to put in a shaker! It's pretty simple: add some rice or beans to a small plastic Easter egg and put it inside with the stuffing!

It's a great little noise maker for toddlers or you can opt to leave it out for just a cute little stuffie!

In addition, you can leave out the flower crowns and they will be suitable for little boy's baskets!

Once I made the unicorn, I looked around on Pinterest and saw that a fellow blogger made a pretty darn similar one! I didn't write up another pattern for it because why fix something when it's not broke?

I would like to caution when making these, depending on the yarn you use they may come out bigger than expected. I used Lion Brand Vanna's Choice for all of them and they came out to about 4-5".

Using something like Red Heart or I Love This Yarn! may result in a much bigger critter. If you prefer that, great! If you would rather have something on the smaller side, I suggest using a smaller hook size if you go with a worsted weight yarn that is not Vanna's Choice.

Crochet Easter Bunny Shaker - Free Pattern

Last year I made darling little Easter Chicks that made noise - I called them Easter Chick Shakers! This year, I took the same concept and made cute little bunnies! These crochet bunny shakers are perfect for Easter baskets!

When I was making these bunnies, I made the base/head the same as the Easter Chick Shakers. They are large enough for a plastic Easter egg (filled with rice, beans, beads, etc.) to fit inside along with stuffing to make fun little noises for kids.

At first, I made a very simple bunny - added some eyes, a nose, and ears. When I started gathering everything together to put it in this blog post, I decided it needed a little something extra.

I decided to give my 'girl' bunny a flower crown. Isn't she darling?! I think it adds such a cute detail. Of course, you can always keep your bunnies plain Jane - they're just as cute!

I think the flowers add such a nice touch to the bunny and it's a great way to use up a bit of your scrap yarn in what ever colors you have! I had a lot of fun picking out colors for the flowers as I have quite a bit of scrap yarn.

I made the 'boy bunny' a plain Joe.  I did play around with a bow tie and a hat, but sometimes plain and simple can make it just right! The bunnies without any flair are especially easy and quick to work up! You can make a whole bunny family for your kiddos and they will love them!

These little bunnies are so fun and cute for Easter baskets! Especially for young ones who don't necessarily need a full basket of candy. Heck, they're great for anyone! They're super cute and fun with their little shakers inside.

Worsted weight yarn 

(I used Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in Fisherman, Pink, Silver Heather, and Silver Blue. For the flower crown I used scrap yarn I had in worsted weight.)

Invisible decrease - work a decrease as you normally would, except only use the outer loops

Single crochet triple decrease is worked as follows: insert hook in first stitch, pull up a loop, insert hook in second stitch, pull up a loop, insert hook int third stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all loops on hook

At this point you will want to attach the eyes.  Place the eyes between rows 14 and 15.
Sew on the nose of the bunny between rows 10 & 13.

If you would like your bunny to be a shaker, you will also want to place your small plastic egg and stuffing inside the chick at this point and continue to stuff as you go.

To make the shaker inside, I took an empty small plastic Easter egg and filled the bottom portion with rice. I used beans and beads for the other two. You can fill it with what ever you have laying around the house that will make noise when you shake the egg. I used packing tape to make sure the content stayed inside and then placed it in the chick with the poly-fil.

Row 19: *sc in next 2 st, invisible decrease, repeat from * around, join to first sc (24)

Row 20: sc in each st around, join to first sc (24)

Row 21: sc in next st, invisible decrease, repeat from * around, join to first sc (16)

Row 22: Invisible decrease around, join to first sc (8)

Fasten off, make sure you have enough poly-fil/stuffing inside and then sew up the hole. I didn't stuff mine too tightly, I wanted to make it soft and squishy.


Bunny Ears F/3.75mm hook

Round 1: Magic ring, 4 sc in ring, join to first sc (4)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each stitch around, join to first sc (8)
Round 3: Ch 1, sc around, join to first sc (8)
Round 4: Ch 1, *2sc, sc, repeat from * around, join to first sc (12)
Round 5-6: Ch 1, sc around, join to first sc (12)
Round 7: Ch 1, *sc, invisible decrease, repeat from * around, join to first sc (8)
Round 8-11: Ch 1, sc around, join to first sc (8)
Fasten off and leave tail to sew onto head.
Using the same color yarn as the bunny nose, use a tapestry needle to create the inner coloring of the ear. Use a running stitch to sew on the inner ear color, fasten off and push tail end into the center of ear.

Make 2 and sew onto top of bunny head

Flower Crown F/3.75mm hook

Make 3 flowers and make 3 leaves. Sew the leaves on first then sew on the flowers.

Leaf

Ch 4, sc in second chain from hook and across, turn
Ch 1, triple sc decrease, fasten off

Flower

Ch 16, (sc, ch 1, sc) into 2nd chain from hook, *sk 1 st, (sc, ch1, sc) in next st, repeat from * across
Fasten off. Roll up the row of crochets to create the flower. Use the yarn end to sew through the bottom of the flower and onto the bunnies head.

Snowman Amigurumi Crochet Pattern - Crochet Along Part 2

Welcome to Week 2 of the snowman amigurumi crochet along! I'm happy that after this week, our snowmen will look more like snowmen and not just a white ball!

Gingerbread Boy and Girl Ragdoll Style Amigurumi - Free Crochet Pattern

These crochet amigurumi gingerbread boy and girl are the perfect little holiday project.  This free crochet pattern comes with a video tutorial to help you make your own gingerbread stuffy. Make one for your favorite little in your life or use it as a cute addition to your home decor.

If you participated in my Christmas Granny Square Afghan CAL, these gingerbread may look familiar! They are made with the same basic construction as the gingerbread applique for the afghan, except they are larger and 3D!

Unlike traditional amigurumi, these gingerbread are made by crocheting in rows rather than rounds. Two 2D shapes are made and sewed together with a bit of stuffing inside to make it 3D!

This pattern only calls for chains and single crochets, so if you know how to do those two stitches, you're all set! 

Get creative as you'd like! As you can see, I made a girl and a boy by just moving the bow and using different colors for the bow and buttons.

I used Bernat Blanket for a soft and cuddly feel but you can easily double up a worsted weight yarn or use a different bulky weight yarn to achieve the same gingerbread boy or girl.

Make 2 gingerbread shapes, we will crochet them together in the end.

Embellish one side of the gingerbread with eyes, mouth, buttons, and bow.

Bow
Use worsted weight yarn and H/5.00mm hook

Row 1: Ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (6)
Row 2-28: Ch 1, sc across, turn (6)
Fasten off leaving about 5 ft of yarn for a tail
Sew Row 1 to Row 28 with a tapestry needle. Making sure the seam is centered, cinch the bow and wrap yarn around the center until you have about 6 in of yarn left. Secure bow by tying a knot with the yarn on the back.
Sew bow onto gingerbread.

Construction

To assemble the gingerbread, hold both pieces together lining up the stitches.
Using the Bernat Blanket yarn in white, attach yarn through both pieces, ch 1 and sc around the gingerbread going through both pieces. About ¾ around, stop and stuff the inside with polyfil. Continue to sc around and stuff as you go. Sc to the first sc and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Ghost Ragdoll Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Halloween is soon upon us and this cute little spooky ghost is the perfect thing to whip up! It's a ragdoll style amigurumi that I've been wanting to try out.

Unlike traditional amigurumi, this little guy is made in rows instead of rounds. Two flat shapes are made, sewn together and then stuffed with a bit of poly-fil making it 3D! I'm really happy with how it turned out for it being my first go at this style of amigurumi.

These would be perfect gifts for little ones! They're also easy and quick to make so they would be cute little class gifts as well :)

I used worsted weight yarn to make this little guy but if you would like a bigger sized ghosty, I would suggest holding two strands of yarn together and use an H hook. Perhaps even using a chunky yarn like Bernat blanket - that would make a fun squishy ghost :)

Sew eyes (between rows 6 - 12) and mouth(between rows 16-19) onto ghost body. Lay 2 ‘arms’ on top of each other and SC around edges, leaving the bottom edge open (the tip of the arm will only have 2SC, the bottom edge will have 4SC) Leave a tail for sewing. The other ends can be stuffed into the arm Repeat for 2nd pair of arms. Take the 2 ghost bodies and lay them together (make sure the bumps are lining up as the bump to the left should be a bit longer than the bump on the right). Take the arms and put them in between the two layers of the ghost bodies. Sew on the arms in between the two layers - arrange them so the tips are pointing up. Now that the arms are sewed on, the last step will be to SC around the perimeter of the body. Attach yarn anywhere on the body to begin single crocheting around the edges of both layers. You will want to stop about ¾ of the way around to stuff lightly with poly-fil. Make sure to stuff a bit into the bottom bumps. When you get to an arm portion, simply SC crochet only on the top layer of the body and start SC through both layers again once you have passed the arm. Once you have SC all the way around, fasten off and weave in the tail end.

Eloise the Unicorn - Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

I'm so stoked to be sharing with you guys the first amigurumi I've ever designed! I'm not going to lie, it took me a lot of unraveling, re-hooking, re-sizing, and many times I even put her aside and gave myself a few days in between this whole process.  

The first few tries, she did not look so pretty. The next few tries, she wasn't quite right. But I got it on the last few tries. My issue? I was too quick to judge and didn't bother attaching anything before I decided 'that doesn't look right'. 

Note to self: Put it together to make sense of it - of course, a bunch of body parts aren't going to look right!

I'm so happy I stuck it out and worked on her until the end - because look at her! I know what you're thinking, so I'm just going to say it.. LOOK AT THAT HAIR! If this isn't #hairgoals, I don't know what is.

What's the yarn I used for the hair? Yarn Bee Glowing in Purple-Multi. Okay, everyone run to their Hobby Lobby and pick some up! Don't have a Hobby Lobby near you? Well, I checked and it's totally available to buy from Hobby Lobby's website online!!

 

Let's get to the pattern, shall we?

Materials

Notes: The head and the body will be worked in continuous rounds, they will NOT be joined after each round. Use a stitch marker to keep track of what round you are on.

SC increase = 2 SC in one stitch

Invisible decrease = work decrease as normal except work into only front loops for a clean finish

Pattern

Head - G hook - White - Worked in a continuous round

Round 1: Magic ring, 8 SC

Round 2: SC increase in each stitch around (16)

Round 3: *SC increase, SC, repeat * (24)

Round 4: *SC increase, 2 SC, repeat* (32)

Round 5: *SC increase, 3 SC, repeat * (40)

Round 6: SC increase, 4 SC, repeat * (48)

Round 7-24: SC evenly around (48)

Sew on nostrils and sleepy eyes using black yarn and tapestry needle.

Sew ‘x’ on Row 6 for the nostrils about 6 stitches apart.

Sew eyes between rows 16-18, about 3 stitches apart.

Starting stuffing and continue to stuff as you go.

Row 25: *4 SC, invisible decrease, repeat * (40)

Ears - G hook - White

Round 1: Magic ring, 4 SC, join (4)

Round 2: Chain 1, SC increase in each stitch, join (8)

Round 3: Chain 1, *SC increase, SC, repeat*, join (12)

Round 4-7: Chain 1, SC around, join (12)

Round 8: Chain 1, *SC, decrease, repeat*, join (6)

Sew onto head between rows 24-26 on a slant using the eyes as a guide. 

Line up the outer side of the ear with the outer side of the eyes.

Horn - ivory sparkle - F hook

Round 1: Magic ring, 4 SC, join

Round 2: Chain 1, 4 SC, join

Round 3: Chain 1, *SC increase, SC, repeat *, join (6)

Round 4: Chain 1, 6 SC, join (6)

Round 5: Chain 1, *SC increase, 2 SC, repeat*, join (8)

Round 6-7: Chain 1, 8 SC, join (8)

Round 8: Chain 1, *SC increase, 3 SC, repeat *, join (10)

Round 9: Chain 1, 10 SC, join (10)

Fasten off, leave tail. Sew in between ears.

Arms/Legs - G hook - Ivory Sparkle & White 

Make a total of 4

Starting with ivory sparkle

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 SC, join (6)

Round 2: Chain 1, *SC increase, repeat *, join (12)

Round 3: Chain 1, SC in back loops only all the way around, join (12)

Round 4: Chain 1, SC around, join (12)

Round 5: Chain 1, *4 SC, invisible decrease, repeat * , join (10)

Change color to White 

Round 6-20: SC in continuous rounds using a stitch marker to keep track of rows (10)

Fasten off, leave tail for sewing.

For each limb piece, pinch the opening together and sew together. Leave a tail for sewing onto body.

Now you will assemble the head, body, and limbs. Sew the head onto the body. Be sure to go around a few times to secure the head.

Counting from the snout, I sewed on the head between Rows 13-20 of the head onto the top of the body. (The top of the body is where you sewed up the hole.) Sew arms 3 rows down from where the head is attached to the body.

Sew legs on rounds 2-5 on the body.

Mane/Tail - Yarn Bee Glow Purple Multi 

The mane and tail will be made by cutting 8 inch pieces of yarn and looping them through the stitches. 

To attach, fold the piece of yarn in half. Insert your hook through a stitch where you want to attach the piece of yarn, pull the yarn through with hook, create a big enough loop on one end to pull the two ends through, and pull tight.

Attach hair around the horn, and down the back of the head. (You can see the side of the head above to see how far down the head I attached the yarn.) The width of my mane was about 10 stitches wide. It was right between the ears going down the back of the head. Trim the front to make bangs and sweep to the side.

For the tail, attach yarn 2 pieces at a time. Attach to rows 6-9 making sure to center it using the legs as a guide. I started at row 6 and attached 4 pieces across, went up a row and attached 4 across, and went up another row and attached 2 across to make it somewhat circular in shape.
